AAAS Annual Meeting 2018: Olga Malinkiewicz Discusses Industrial Aspects of Perovskite Technology in Photovoltaics
Last week in Austin, USA, we had the honour to take part in AAAS Annual Meeting 2018, organized by American Association for the Advancement of Science. Scientists from all over the world met to share their knowledge, experience, and ideas during four days of the conference full of talks, lectures, and seminars.
Our CTO, Dr Olga Malinkiewicz, has been invited to give a talk during the session dedicated to sustainable energy future with next-generation low-cost solar cells organized by Dr Michael Saliba from Federal Institute of Technology, Lausanne (EPFL), Lausanne, Switzerland and Dr Juan-Pablo Correa-Baena from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, MA.
Invited guests presented different aspects of perovskite solar cells and their applications. Prof. Anders Hagfeldt discussed the advances in perovskite technology and its implications for energy development, including potential applications in silicon/perovskite tandem cells.
Prof. Hagfeldt is regarded as one of the world’s leading researchers in dye-sensitized, and perovskite solar cells. Using various methods and new nanostructured materials, he and his research team have succeeded in substantially improving the efficiency of these third-generation solar cells.
Dr Antonio Abate, on the other hand, focused on the long-term stability providing participants with the critical overview of the current research and an outlook of the paths towards stable perovskite for solar energy. Dr Abate is an expert in perovskite materials investigating the fundamental mechanism and long-term stability of the degradation of perovskites, recognized as the 2nd most impactful researcher in his field by Times Higher Education ranking.
The session has been closed with Dr Olga Malinkiewicz’s talk about challenges of perovskite cells industrial applications including legislative hurdles as well as the potential impact on the solar industry.
