Licence subject and scope

Saule Technologies offers a licence for distribution and implementation of an opaque PV product with high energy conversion efficiency, which can be easily integrated with building facades and/or an efficient, translucent perovskite cell in any color (so-called “solar window”).
The licence is granted for a chosen country or group of countries which are not covered by an exclusive licence agreement with another entity.

What is the cost and efficiency of the solar cells by Saule?

We expect the initial efficiency to be around 10% and the initial price to be around 50 EUR (58 USD) per m2. This would mean the LCOE (Levelized Cost of Electricity) of approximately 0.05 EUR (0.05 USD) per kWh. We predict to increase our module’s efficiency to 13-15% in the due course, meanwhile, there is a lot of room for future product price reductions.

What will be the final shape of the panel?

The inkjet printing technique allows the design of free form perovskite solar modules. The shapes and areas covered by each layer can be all customized according to the requirements.

What does it mean that cells are flexible?

Perovskite cells are resistant to damage caused by bending and folding. The flexibility of the final product depends only on the materials constituting the substrate and the encapsulant. The technology is compatible with virtually any substrate. Currently, developed cells are printed on a flexible, transparent foil.

Can I install perovskite cells on windows?

Yes. Different levels semi-transparency is obtainable. Even though the efficiency decreases with increased transparency, it is still economically viable due to the intrinsically low cost of our technology.  

What is the thickness of the module?

The thickness of a solar cell is around 1 micron. The total thickness of the module depends only on the substrate and encapsulation technology. 

How heavy are perovskite modules?

The weight of the solar cell is negligible compared to the substrate and encapsulants, and the total mass thus depends on the materials of these components. Current weight of Saule modules is approx. 500 g/m2.

Can you modify the color of the cell?

The technology utilized by Saule enables the finished product to be engineered to a wide range of available colors. This is a feature especially desirable in building integrated applications, allowing architects to design with a great degree of freedom.
